From trendy venues to small get-togethers, Jakarta's nightlife has a lot to offer. For people living in South Jakarta the Kemang area is the closest reference in terms of bars, coffee shops and international cuisine. A perfect example would be the Eastern Promise bar and restaurant: in addition to serving excellent Indian food, the outdoor pub at the rear of the restaurant offers amazing weekly live band concerts... It is a definite reliable source of fun and so far my absolute favorite place to go out!
On Friday after a nice work-out at the gym my friend Laetitia and I decided to go to the Eastern Promise for drinks. We were delighted to dance on reggae classics and both appreciated the once again high quality level of the singing, instrument playing and overall atmosphere. The apogee of the night came with the band playing "Welcome to my Paradise" Steven Coconuttreez... a local favorite/club-med style anthem that you unfortunately cannot escape from while vacationing in Lombok or Bali.

"Eastern Promise hosts regular open-mic nights every Tuesday, a monthly quiz night and live music: jazz night on Wednesdays, rock and pop music on Fridays, Blues and Country on Saturdays and an acoustic band on Sundays. The venue is also known for its food......" Jakarta Globe. http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/city/making-good-on-jakartas-eastern-promise/322259
